Bayeux Tapestry Recreation - Starting the Stitching

I'm recreating part of the Bayeux Tapestry using authentic materials and equipment. I want to explore how it was made, the techniques used, the time it took, how the materials and equipment reacted to being used, and how the embroiderers may have made decisions and felt as they worked. In this video we finally start stitching! Yes, I know. I can't believe it either. I briefly talk through the equipment and threads we're using and how I'm choosing the colours, the stitches and working out the order of work. We then start the embroidery, working on the first motif - the border folate. I talk about the stitch we're using, stem stich, and the 19th century compartmentalization of it depending on the diagonal direction of the worked thread: top right to bottom left is called stem stitch, top left to bottom right - outline stitch.
