Craftsman Tools - USA History: Ratchets Rare to Common

This video entertains the concept of the rarest to most common Craftsman ratchets that were made in the USA. The piece that I give the crown of rarest American made Craftsman ratchet might surprise you. Be aware, I lump categories of ratchets together based on their rarity. Each category is presented in no specific order. This is my opinion, and your opinion may be different than my own. This video is for use as an introductory compendium and does not feature every Craftsman ratchet in existence. To make things faster and more concise, for ratchet families, which contained multiple drive sizes, I only display the 1/2". For specific ratchets that were made only in specific sizes or orphaned from being a part of a complete family, they will be shown individually and mentioned accordingly. Once I get a chance, I will annotate the times for each of the categories I created: Ultra Rare Very Rare Rare to Fairly Rare Uncommon Common The best sources for researching the USA made Craftsman tools are two fold: 1) Sears Catalogs from 1927 through 2012. I wound up with ~60% of the physical copies thanks to an estate sale years ago. Finding the remaining 40% from any point within the physical Sears Catalog run (1883 through 1993) was extraordinarily difficult. As stated above, you can skip nearly 45 years before Craftsman makes its first appearance. The physical copies allow you to hold history in your hand, and they let you view EVERYTHING the catalogs contained. The problem with the Sears Catalogs is that they can be difficult to find, expensive, take up a lot of space, and can be heavy. 2) David Mayer's Craftsman Tool History DVD set. The DVD set is a compendium that offers you an abridged view of the Sears Catalog, specifically focusing on the Craftsman tool brand. Each catalog year is able to be viewed through a .pdf or as a movie in your DVD player. The time and effort that went into his project is incredible. You can find the DVD set on eBay from time to time. Take it from me, if you are even remotely interested this topic BUY the DVD set. It is light years faster to research on your computer than turning thousands of pages as I have. For the mere $60 he asks, you will get YEARS of knowledge. His was a labor of love. Thank you David!
