I hope you’ve enjoyed the part you played these five hundred years.” With a graceful three-step, Focalors dances elegantly under the decree of the Oratrice Mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale, a Sword of Damocles, welcoming her final act. What feelings lay obscured within her light footsteps? Relief from the failed prophecy, relinquishment of her role to the Water Dragon, or the reluctance to leave the people of Fontaine behind? “Thank you, Furina, for all you've done.” “From this moment on, please live happily as a human, just as I wished we could.” The cyclical nature observed between the Lord Rukkhadevata and the Lesser Lord Kusanali in the Sumeru chapter is now reenacted in the split personas of Focalors and Furina in Fontaine. One entrusts the heavy responsibility of governing the country to the successor, while the other entrusts the opportunity for a life of freedom to her reflection in the mirror. Similar narrative, yet with slightly different implications; even gods harbor yearnings for ordinary life. Perhaps, the longing for a carefree existence is another thing both gods and human have in common. This piece has two major challenges, the first one being coordinating both hands during the waltz section and overcoming wide spans. At this tempo, achieving smooth interweaving of the melodies between both hands requires extensive practice. Some parts of the melody even require playing with the same finger! Secondly, the triplet chords in Neuvillette’s main melody need to be played evenly at a rapid pace, presenting a considerable challenge for pedal clarity and rhythm control. Additionally, there are tremolo passages (those after Furina’s hat falls) that require specific techniques, such as keeping the wrist low to shorten the distance between fingers and facilitate rapid oscillations. In summary, mastering this piece indeed requires significant effort. I practiced for a long time and even invested in a cosplay costume to enhance the atmosphere, hoping to provide a better viewing experience for everyone.
