Wildfire - Brendan T Byrne State Forest - City Line Wildfire - Browns Mills, Burlington County - 850 Acres Around 12:00 PM New Jersey State Forest Fire Service received a call for a possible brush fire in the area of City Line Rd. in Brown Mills, Burlington County. When units got on the scene they confirmed the working fire and due to the spot of the fire upgraded it to a wildfire. Crews quickly started to gather and come up with a plan. They were going to backburn and try to contain the fire to about 80 acres. Crews operated throughout the day and made good progress then before 7pm the fire started to jump some lines and spread rapidly. During the press confrence, you could see smoke going into the sky hundreds of feet tall. Just ad the press conference ended they notched the acers up to 350 due to the fire and wind conditions. At dusk the fire grew even more radio transmissions captured NJFFS members saying things like "I'm looking at a wall of fire I need to back up" while the fire-raged crews were able to get lines around some points of the fire to knock it back down. The fire burned throughout the night but was not as heavy as it was at dusk. The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation. The fire is currently at 850 acres and 50% contained.
