Lake District UK | Carlisle, the great border city

A walk around Carlisle, a historic city located in the county of Cumbria in northwest England, United Kingdom. On a glorious Monday morning in September, shoppers are just starting to arrive and the city is starting another day. We begin the walk at the train station, and on exiting we see the impressive Citadel, a castle like structure with two oval towers. Then we make our way around the Crescent and on to English Street, the main pedestrianised shopping area. The pink building just beyond the market cross is the old town hall, now the information centre - and the subject for an artist! The white building around the corner is the old Guildhall building. On we go, to stroll through the Cathedral grounds. Sadly, we have to contend with a dual carriageway and all the traffic noise to see this magnificent structure. With a sigh, we turn our backs and head down to the West Walls, once the boundary of the city. Here we can see an amazing piece of street art. I hope to make a video on the vibrant street art scene at some point. After a brief look at some of the lovely buildings along the West Walls, we head back into the city centre, passing the medieval tithe barn on the way. We end back in the centre, for a final check on how the painting is going... I hope you enjoy this brief wander around the streets of Carlisle city centre.
