Let's Save the Sega Dreamcast

The console so many of you have been waiting for. Let's see if we can change its future. I'm now on Patreon! Help support the channel.   / segalordx   Check out my Sega Lord X merchandise page! https://segalordx.threadless.com/ If you would like to support the channel directly: https://www.paypal.me/segalordx Head over to Facebook to hear me ramble about various things:   / segalordx   I'm now on Twitter!   / sega_lord_x   Opening "Sega" jingle is from Astal for the Sega Saturn. Ending Music during the credits is from Batman for the Sega Genesis. SLX Logo By: Jan Neves YouTube Page -    / jan3d   Intro by Evan S. https://portfolio.tsestudios.com/ Outro Animation by Kevin Bhall YouTube Page -    / nigh11   Episode Notes: 1. I chose the idea of releasing late Saturn games on the Katana from Nintendo's strategy of doing similar with games like Breath of the Wild. Giving Panzer Saga a fresh new audience could make a difference to that game's financial success. 2. While it's true the Katana and its DVD attachment would be $400 in 1999, it would still be cheaper than a consumer stand alone DVD player. By the Xmas of 2000, I am positive a $200 Katana and $100 DVD add-on would make it just as attractive as a PS2. 3. Sega's online strategy could have been just as well done with a broadband device released in late 2001. Not even Microsoft was fully up and going yet at that time. 4. I used movie footage from George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead in segments when talking about DVD. This was primarily because it's in the public domain and I am a huge fan of the genre. 5. Partnering with EA would have had other long term benefits for Sega. Chief among them is the NFL giving exclusive rights to EA and Sega exiting the sports gaming business altogether. The 2K games never had a path to long term success, anyway. 6. I used the StrikerDC pad as my mold for the new controller. I like the feel of that one and a few tweaks would make it perfect for this idea. 7. Thanks to SaturnDave of Sega Saturn, Shiro! for the Katana logo. He drew it up quick but it worked great for my purposes here. 8. The idea of extra RAM in the Katana is to hopefully deal with the bigger game worlds coming out in 2002 and beyond. Ideally, we need to be as close to our competitors as possible. Since we lost the modem with every Katana, I thought it was a great option. 9. Some would argue that 6th generation Sega would not have been the same without 2K sports or Shenmue. I am sympathetic and agree to a certain extent. Whenever you make big changes like this you are ultimately going to cut away things you loved when younger. I can definitely understand some not wanting to go this route. 10. I wanted to end this notes section on the idea that this was to "save" the Dreamcast on an entirely business and financial level. The Dreamcast didn't need saving in any other way, really. It was an awesome console with many incredible games. In so many ways, it was already perfect.
