Buses Trains & Trams around the West Midlands | March 2023

A good look at the West Midlands public transport scene in March 2023 mainly looking at the western parts of the conurbation. Filming begins at Birmingham New Stree Station before swiftly moving to West Bromwich aboard Midland Metro tram 44. West Bromwich interchange is a good place to catch both local bus services and trams passing by where there was plenty of action to be had including the West Bromwich Corporation Liveried Volvo B7TL named Tony Hunter. The next port of call was a brand new location for these video's at Wednesbury, after having arrived on National Express West Midland (NXWM) Dennis Trident BX54XSG on the 79 there wasn't as much action here, but still plenty to keep us entertained. A short walk to Wednesbury Parkway tram stop see's a tram taken out of service and returned to the depot with passengers swapped and notice the rare use of Platform 3. Moving to another new location for video from Wednesbury Bilston is the next stop after a journey onboard Midland Metro tram 37. Bilston Interchange is again highly recommended if you are looking for an easy spotting location with easy access to the Midland Metro with plenty of bus services found and again there is plenty of action seen here. The next move is to Dudley onboard Travel West Midlands Volvo B7RLE S1TWM which was the first one of it's kind to have been painted in the latest livery scheme for National Express West Midlands. Dudley bus station is not a new location to film but the town gets more and more like a ghost town after every visit. There is the usual variety of NXWM buses and Diamond seen serving this part of the West Midlands. The next location heads on to The Merry Hill shopping centre after a journey on the route 2 served by NXWM with ADL Enviro 400 BV57XJN. Temptation to catch a Dennis Trident to Wolverhampton on the 15 was very high as it is a great route to do especially if you like these vehicles but it was good to see them here and get them on film. Moving (semi) swiftly back into Birmingham onboard National Express West Midlands Platinum ADL Enviro 400 MMC SK68MGE on route X10 via Cradley Heath, Halesowen and Bearwood the next stop is Five Ways. This is great for on street running of the trams between Birmingham Library and Edgbaston Village tram stop where the buses and trams all follow one another in quite a vibrant part of the city. After moving one stop down the road onboard Midland Metro tram 42 for a very short journey the next location in Brindley place for the International Conference Centre and Sea Life centre. More buses and trams filmed here with the Wright Gemini Bodied Volvo B7TL's being quite regulars on the NXWM routes 12 and 13. This is a great place as of time of filming to capture these fairly elderly vehicles on mainstream service. Filming finally winds up in Birmingham City centre as daylight begins to fade after a journey onboard Midlands Metro 40 from Brindley Place to Bull Street. Locations include Colmore Row before heading to Snow Hill railway station for a bit of train action on the Worcester and Kidderminster to Stratford upon Avon lines. A quick hop onboard West Midlands Railway Class 172 008 joined to Class 172 005 takes the two minute journey to Moor Street mainly under a tunnel. More filming is done at Moor Street with trains and buses before heading down Smallbrook Queensway to finish off at Birmingham New Street Railway Station.
