The Griffith 400 cars were the last models built and sold before a dock strike ended body and chassis availability in late 1966 and sounded the death knell for Griffith Motor Cars. The 400 was the most refined and sorted of the Griffith line up. Featuring improved cooling, and a heavy duty Jaguar rear end, it finally could handle the power of the Ford HiPo 289 engines. Griffith 400 number 400 5 007 is a particularly rare 1966 model. Only 59 Griffith 400 cars were built during its short life. Purchased by the current owner at auction in 1967 as an untitled racing vehicle, it has been titled and owned by the same enthusiast since that time, making it literally a one owner Griffith with less than 3,000 original documented miles. The car has lived in a heated garage and has never seen rain or snow. American Racing Magnesium Minilite style wheels, dual quad carbs with offenhauser manifold, and a chrome moly chassis stamped Holman and Moody are just a few of the interesting details of this automobile. This Griffith 400 was one of a select group of Griffith and TVR Tuscan automobiles featured in the new documentary “Bat Out of Blackpool, the TVR Griffith and Tuscan Story”.
