Cultural theorist Stuart Hall, in conversation with Kieran Connell. This interview took place in the run-up to 'The Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies 50 Years On', a conference staged at the University of Birmingham in June 2014 to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Birmingham Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies. The conference was organised by Connell and Professor Matthew Hilton along with Herjeet Marway. It was filmed and edited by the photographer Alicia Field so that Hall could have an input in the conference, knowing his deteriorating health would make it unlikely he would be able to attend in person. Hall died in February 2014, four months before the conference took place.
