Terry Irwin presents two epiphanies and gives practical take aways for designers to look at problems more holistically. Terry Irwin is Head of the School of Design at Carnegie Mellon University. She is interested in design for sustainability, and her research explores how living systems principles can inform traditional design process. Irwin sees design as playing an important role in the transition to a sustainable society. Her areas of research interest focus on worldview as the basis for design for sustainability, and examines the aspects of an ecological worldview for designers. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
