Post-graduation, Thomas aligned himself with conservative figures, ultimately switching his party affiliation to Republican and voting for Reagan. His trajectory further ascended when he caught the attention of the Reagan administration, leading to key positions, including running the Equal Employment Opportunity Program Commission. George H.W. Bush nominated Thomas to succeed Thurgood Marshall amidst controversy due to Anita Hill testimony of sexual harassment. Despite Hill's detailed accusations, Thomas was confirmed in a Democrat-controlled Senate.
