Lucky Dube—Reggae Strong & Peanut Butter

Reggae Strong was the first television show that Lucky Dube appeared on during his first tour of the U.S. in 1989. (Part of that first interview can be viewed here on this channel). To our surprise and pleasure, Lucky loved that experience so much he wrote this song and recorded it for his "Prisoner" album the next year. The song always made me smile, until 2007 when the lyrics, of course, struck too close to home. I still smile at his gesture, but shed a tear for his prophecy. Here is Lucky's performance of "Reggae Strong", part of the Bay Street concert we recorded with him on July 8, 1990. "Reggae Strong" is followed by "Peanut Butter", but unfortunately our master camera (which was also recorded master sound) was changing tapes and some of the camera and better quality sound only returns partly through the song. Lucky's vocal performance is so outstanding, however, I'm sure you will enjoy it. Nobody can stop reggae...or Lucky's spirit.
