The Most Recorded Tornado In History Tornadoes are a truly breathtaking sight in nature. While they can be magnificent to watch from a distance, if you are caught in one, it could be a life changing experience. This is the case for many residents that live in Tornado prone areas of America. Kansas has been known over the years to be frequently hit by tornadoes. Sitting right in the middle of Tornado alley, it has seen it's fair share of severe weather. Typically tornado season occurs here during April and June, peaking in May. When warm moist air from the gulf of mexico heads north, and mixes with the cold dry air heading south from Canada and the Rocky Mountains, the result can be explosive. In the peak of the 2022 tornado season, a tornado would form, and become the most recorded tornado in history. Friday, April 29th saw a powerful low pressure system approaching Kansas, allowing a sharp dryline to track along interstate 135. This wasn't unusual for residents of the area who are used to seeing storms roll in at this time of year. As the day went on several storms were observed in central and north eastern Kansas, near a developed warm front. But as the early evening hours continued, a couple of storms started firing just east of Wichita. One of these storms produced the now famous EF3 Tornado that carved a path through Andover, Kansas. This tornado became the most filmed tornado of all time, with many different angles captured. While beautiful, this picture perfect tornado was carving a path through the town of Andover with wind speeds up to 155 miles per hour. The tornado was on the ground for a total of 21 minutes, and in that time it had tracked almost 13 miles, having a width of approximately 440 yards. Fortunately no lives were lost as a result of this tornado, however the damage to buildings and infrastructure was severe. The tireless work done by meteorologists, and storm chasers alike, has helped in giving advanced warning to people in the path of dangerous weather.
