Generally when replacing a chuck on a cordless drill with a left hand center screw, they can normaly be removed with the Allen key method. But sometime they can be to stiff to remove this way, and modern new drills are general fitted so tight they cannot be knocked of. Cutting them off like this with a grinder is the next go to method. It's quick, relatively easy amd dose no damaged to the gearbox. Some people also dismantil the drill and gearbox to get to the chuck spindle on the inside, so they can clamp it and use a pulling bar. But this more difficult and risky.
