Battleship New Jersey's Quad 40 returns after 50 years

During World War II and the Korean War, the Battleship New Jersey carried twenty Quadruple 40mm Bofors Gun Mounts (Quad 40s). These guns protected American aircraft carriers from Kamikaze attacks during WWII. In 1967 while preparing the ship for service in Vietnam, all of the Quad 40s were removed. Nineteen of them were destroyed, but one was put on display at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Fifty years later, the 23,000 pound weapon has been completely Gary Mahan of the Mahan Collection in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, a team of experts in historic preservation. On November 13, 2017, the Quad 40 was transported back to its home on the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial in Camden, New Jersey.
