It’s a symbol of his design sense and his unfortunate connection to slavery. He also founded a university modeled after the Roman Pantheon. It’s got an impressive rotunda that brings in visitors and students from everywhere. It has two impressive museums nearby. The Fralin Museum has a variety of art, and the UVA has one of the only aboriginal art collections in the US. Charlottesville also has the remains of James Monroe’s home. He was Thomas’ apprentice and the fifth president of the US. If you have children that want to learn a bit more, take them to the Discovery Museum. The exhibits are all catered to them, and they’ll have fun while they expand their mind. Thomas loved wine and made sure that Charlottesville was a haven for wineries. He founded Jefferson Wineries, and Three Notche’d Brewing has a variety of brews inspired by history. Don’t forget to also try hard cider, the town’s other favorite drink. Thomas was also a major foodie, and that’s part of why his hometown has so many delicious restaurants. The oldest, The Virginian, provides a twist on his beloved mac ‘n cheese. There’s also seafood at Public Oyster and treats at MarieBette Cafe and Bakery. Other Delicious restaurants sit within the Downtown Mall. It’s got stories and stories of everything you could want, including shops, galleries, and cinemas. If you’d rather commune outside, Skyline Drive takes you around Shenandoah National Park.
