Su-25 was used in many conflicts, starting with the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan, all the way to the current war in Ukraine. One of lesser known involvements of this legendary attack aircraft was the Abkhazian War of 1992-93. While gaining independence from the USSR, Georgia lost control over its autonomous province which it tried to restore militarily in August 1992. Despite initial success, the conflict dragged on for more than a year. Russian military joined the fray and fought on the side of Abkhazian separatists, although without admitting it officially. Both sides used the Su-25 with various degree of success. Interestingly, on several occasions these planes met their enemy counterparts and fights developed.
