(9 Nov 2017) Britain's Prince Harry led Remembrance Day tributes at London's Westminster Abbey on Thursday. Harry and the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr. John Hall, honoured the nation's war dead at the Abbey's Field of Remembrance. The memorial garden is officially opened the Thursday before Remembrance Sunday until the evening of the following Thursday, and is marked with plots remembering those wounded and killed in military service. It's the 89th time the Field of Remembrance has opened, after the tradition began in 1928. The prince laid a cross of remembrance in front of two wooden crosses from the Graves of Unknown British Soldiers from the First and Second World Wars and saluted a performance of bugle call "The Last Post." After the observance of two minutes' silence, Harry met with veterans, representatives of organisations involved in conflict, and members of the public, who had planted a cross in memory of their fallen comrades and loved ones. Armistice Day is marked around the world at 11am (local time) on 11 November, the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, when the Armistice Treaty was signed in 1918, ending the First World War.
