⛱️ This pair of Blue Heelers (aka Queensland Heeler or Australian Cattle Dog) are a type of herding dog originated in Australia and take their chasing very seriously! When we slowed down in the sand they nipped our tires to make sure we knew we had been 'tagged'! They had a blast chasing our RoverCam up and down Dog Beach Coronado, and they were super polite and respectful when we had to stop for a battery change or to have sand wiped off of the lens! They also joined in with 2 Golden Retrievers for an exciting 4 do chase to end the beautiful summer day in San Diego, California! We put our high speed, high definition cameras on a beach-ready custom-built roving platform so that we can see everything from a dog's perspective. Blue heelers are known for their intelligence, energy, and trainability. They have a distinctive blue and tan coat, and are a medium-sized breed. They were originally bred to work on cattle stations in the harsh Australian outback, and were developed by crossing the Dalmatian with the Australian Dingo, and later with other breeds such as the Australian Kelpie. As a result, they are known for their stamina and endurance, and are able to work long hours in harsh conditions. Blue heelers are highly trainable and excel in various sports such as agility, obedience and herding. They are also great for search and rescue, therapy and service work. They are known for their loyalty and protective nature, making them great watchdogs but can be reserved with strangers and may be wary of unfamiliar people. They have a high energy level and need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Blue heelers require regular grooming and shedding. They are also known for their strong herding instincts, so they need proper training, socialization and to be given a job to do, or they will develop behavioral issues. LOCATION: Dog Beach in Coronado, California is located at the north end of Coronado, and is accessible from the end of Ocean Boulevard in the San Diego area. The distance between Dog Beach and the Hotel del Coronado is about 1.2 miles (2 km) and it takes around 20-25 minutes to walk, or it can be reached in less than 5 minutes by car. Dogs are allowed to run and play off-leash at this location, which is open 24 hours a day, and is a popular spot for dog owners to take their pets for a swim in the ocean or to play in the sand. Be aware that all dogs must be licensed and vaccinated and you are required to clean up after your dog. There is free parking on the street near the entrance, but you may need to park in residential areas a few blocks from the entrance path on the busiest days and times. There are restrooms on the street, and water fountains with a dog-rinse area where the beach path meets the street.
