Documentation of a naming ceremony of the mask conducted by members of the Sierra Leone diaspora community in London prior to its installation in the 'Sowei mask: spirit of Sierra Leone' exhibition at the British Museum. In the ceremony, the historic mask is first named and then formally presented to the British Museum on behalf of the female Sande society with which the mask is associated. The exhibition is part of the British Museum's Objects in Focus series and is open to the public between 14 February and 28 April 2013. Entrance is free. See http://www.britishmuseum.org/whats_on...
