Winter Is Coming: Finland, the Baltics and European Security

On the 4th of April 2023, Finland became the 31st member of NATO. This marked the country’s departure from its military non-alignment policy that it had kept throughout the Cold War and ever since. Finland’s accession was also significant for NATO: the land border it shares with Russia has now more than doubled. At this event, we meet with Jukka Siukosaari, Finland’s Ambassador to the UK, and Dr Donatas Kupčiūnas, a Baltic Fellow at Cambridge University’s Centre for Geopolitics, to discuss the reasoning for Finland’s change of course, and how they see Baltic security in the context of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
