Presently it is a Municipal Board of Agra District . It is located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India . This is the Mughal Empire hereIt was the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1571 to 1585 under Akbar's reign, then it was abandoned, probably due to lack of water. It was the princely state of Sikarwar Rajput Raja who later settled around it in Kheragarh and Morena district of Madhya Pradesh. Fatehpur Sikri is the best example of Muslim architecture. The Fatehpur Sikri Mosque is said to be a copy of the Mecca Masjid and its designs are derived from Hindu and Zoroastrian architecture. The entrance to the mosque is the 54 meter high Buland Darwaza which was constructed in 1573 AD. To the north of the mosque is the dargah of Sheikh Salim Chishti where childless women come to pray. Aankh Michauli, Diwan-e-Khas, Buland Darwaza, Panch Mahal, Khwabgah, Jodha Bai's palace, Dargah of Sheikh Salim Chishti's son, Shahi Masjid, Anoop Talab are the main monuments of Fatehpur Sikri. The Mughal emperor Babur defeated Rana Sanga at a place called Sikri , which is 41 km from present Agra . Then Akbar built a fort here to make it his headquarters, but due to lack of water, the capital was shifted to Agra Fort.Had to move to Fatehpur Sikri, 37 km from Agra, was built by Mughal Emperor Akbar. Along with being a successful king, he was also a lover of art. Fatehpur Sikri was also the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1570-1585. This city was built by Akbar himself under his supervision. Akbar was childless. When all the measures to get a child failed, he prayed to Sufi saint Sheikh Salim Chishti. After this, happy and excited by the birth of a son, Akbar decided to make his capital here. But there was a lot of water shortage here, so only after 15 years the capital had to be moved again to Agra.
