Presidential Investiture of Vanya Quiñones, Ph.D. | February 10, 2023 - 2:00pm

The investiture of Vanya Quiñones as CSUMB’s fourth president celebrates the university’s treasured past, vibrant present, and promising future. President Quiñones was appointed by the California State University Board of Trustees on July 13, 2022, and began her new role on Aug. 15, 2022. With this investiture ceremony, the CSU Board of Trustees formally invests in President Quiñones the authority of her position. It is one of the most significant events in the life of a university. The investiture ceremony is among the oldest traditions in academia. Originating in English universities and modeled after knighthood ceremonies, investiture comes from the Latin phrase for “dress in robe.” In academic circles, the term has come to mean one who will literally don the university’s insignia and regalia and lead the university forward. The installation of a new president is a ceremony of dignity with many academic traditions and protocols. The academic procession that takes place includes delegates from other colleges and universities, as well as CSUMB’s own faculty. All who are assembled here represent the people and the community that CSUMB strives to lead and serve in our region, state and beyond.
