Makar, Crosby and Kaprizov do THIS fundamental mechanic... and you can too! (10&2) [2/9]

The 10&2 (Mohawk, Crosby edges..) is the second of the 9 fundamental skating mechanics! Great for: - Puck protection - Deception - Changing directions (turning) - Playmaking - Specifically on the forehand side - Pass receptions - Wrap arounds - Shooting - Transitions - Forward to backwards & backwards to forwards - And MUCH more! ___________________ Can be practice either: 1. In a circle 2. Figure 8, or 3. Linear ___________________ 🔑 10&2 Keys 1. Feet pointed away 2. Aggressive inside edge Y-angle - Need to have both ankles completely collapsed in - More on Y-angle ➡️    • Get more grip, tighter movement AND s...   3. Shin angle - Knees over toes 4. Shift weight foot to foot - Don’t just ride the front foot and push with the back foot. Both feet provide speed and steering! - I highly recommend lifting your feet to do so. Although Crosby often keeps both feet on the ice, he’s a master at shifting his weight and can do so even without lifting his feet. 5. Front foot aggressive heel pressure - Cut with the front foot heel 6. Forward weight displacement (forward lean) - You want to feel like you are falling toward the center of the circle. ___________________ Is this you?…. Mentally restricting yourself from trying the 10&2 because you think you lack the mobility? If so, READ THIS! If you can point your feet away, you have ALL the mobility you need to execute an effective 10&2 A lot of people think they need to excessively externally rotate their hips to execute the 10&2. Which is not the case! When you try to force external hip rotation without collapsing your ankles in, you’ll end up either on the flats of your blade or even sometimes on the outside edge, which requires a LOT of tension to balance and puts a lot of stress on the groin! FIX: All you need to do is have your feet pointed away and collapse your ankles in. What that will do is put your hips in more internal rotation and take a lot of stress off your groin. The 10&2 is the second out of this 9 part series on the fundamental mechanics!
