US Presidents & German leaders, every year (1789-2022)

Some FAQs related to the video: Q1. Why is the HRE shown as Germany? A1. Before the Napoleonic invasion, majority of the area that lies in the modern day Germany used to be a part of the HRE. The HRE was informally called the 'German State'. Q2. Why German Confederation and not Prussia between 1815 and 1867? A2. Same reason as A1. Majority of the area that is now in Germany was a part of the German Confederation, not Prussia. Prussia started dominating only after 1867. Q3. Why are the Austrian Emperors shown as German leaders from 1815 to 1867? A3. Since the inception of German Confederation, the Emperor of Austria was also the nominal Head of the German Confederation. Q4. Why Emperors/Presidents instead of Chancellors from 1871 to 1933, but Chancellors instead of Presidents from 1949 to 2022? A4. During the German Empire and Weimar Republic, the Emperor/President had significant political powers but since 1949, Germany has been a Parliamentary Republic with the President being a Ceremonial figurehead and Chancellor being the actual charge of Government. A similar analogy would be: British Monarch and Prime Minister. Q5. Why is Hitler shown as Fuhrer instead of Chancellor? A5. When President Hindenburg died in 1934, Chancellor Hitler merged the position of the Head of State(President) and Head of Government(Chancellor) into a single position called 'Fuhrer', thereby giving himself too much political power! Q6. Why not East Germany from 1949 to 1990? A6. West Germany is generally considered to be the predecessor of the modern day Germany, primarily because West Germany incorporated East Germany into its territory. Though a video showing the leaders of West vs East Germany can be made for some other day! Q7. Are Franz II (HRE) and Franz I (German Confederation) the same person? A7. YES, they are. After Napoleon destroyed the HRE, Franz II adopted the title of Franz I, Emperor of Austria. By that virtue he also became the nominal head of German Confederation. Austrian Emperor = Head of German Confederation from 1815 to 1867. Similar example: James VI of Scotland later became James I of England!
