Sawmill House, located on the site of an old sawmill in Australia, is a sustainable home that uses large reclaimed concrete blocks. Collaboratively designed by the architect and his brother, the house features gradual and customized construction. With an operable envelope, the house takes advantage of natural ventilation in the summer and maximizes solar gain in the winter. The use of 270 recycled blocks in the walls highlights material reuse. Designed for a family of three, the house combines a rustic look with recycled wood and brass sheeting in the kitchen cabinetry.
