Protesters opposed to last week's decree by President Dina Boluarte’s administration carried signs saying "identity is not a sickness" and "nothing to cure" as well as calling for a "Comprehensive health law". The Ministry of Health said the action would guarantee “comprehensive mental health care coverage” to those affiliated with public, private or mixed health plans. Congresswoman Susel Paredes of the 'People first' party sent a letter to the Health Ministry on Tuesday calling for the repeal of the regulation. Peru is a country that does not recognise same-sex marriage.
