The project took the better part of a year to complete. No joke, this was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Imagine researching, gathering reference, writing an essay, screen capping, video editing, 3D modeling, learning how, texturing, rigging, shading, rendering, polishing, and publishing all at the same time. Probably the craziest thing I did was bought an external DVD player for my computer just to get 15 seconds of brad bird from the Incredibles Special features DVD in better quality than is available online. It’s been a passion project and I would say is the 3D modern day equivalent of master copying a painting. I learned so much about Spider-Verse through my own observation of the smallest details and through reading almost every single article or watching every video and going to the entire credited art crews personal portfolio pages to glean details. I did this for a YouTube series but in the end I really did it for me. The movie had such an impact on me and I knew I had to do something to get it out of my system. Reconcile it somehow. At a time when I felt like animation was so predictable, in comes this nuclear bomb of a feature film where unbeknownst to the rest of us hundreds of people were working for years to counter the exact mundanity I was so tired of seeing.
