Stealing Power from the RS232 Port of an Old PC

In this experiment we look at how some serial peripherals like the PC or MicroSoft mouse used to derive power rails from the RS-232 port on computers before PS/2 and USB came along (which included dedicated power pins, unlike RS-232). I tapped into a serial link between a PC and external US Robotics modem and generated around +/- 7 or 8 volts, turning on an LED with each rail while typing characters on the serial port to test it out. I may develop this prototype into a more convoluted interface if things work out as planned in future videos.
