How Much Do Medieval, Renaissance & Later Swords Weigh? 24 Historical Weapons Weighed!

How much do swords weigh? Here we look at a range of European swords from the Viking era all the way through the medieval and renaissance periods, up to WW1. I have also thrown in a few pole weapons for reference as well (24 weapons in total - a mixture of real antiques and good quality replicas). The results are posted below for reference, or if you want to spoiler yourself, but the video contains a lot more detail and CONTEXT. We often hear or read about weights for historical weapons which, frankly, are wildly inaccurate. Roleplaying games, video games and even movies are guilty of spreading these myths, but sometimes you even see people who should know better spreading misinformation as well. This video highlights that from the 'dark ages' until modern times, swords have remained in a remarkably similar ballpark when it comes to weight.
