Presently, there exist multiple types of facelifts, which can differ greatly in how they handle the face. Some techniques are best for younger faces, while other more advanced techniques are critical for achieving natural results in the older face. Dr. Soares briefly reviews the history of the facelift and some of the most popular techniques in existence today. Tessier's Sub-Periosteal Rhytidectomy is not included in this talk, but it is worthwhile learning about it as well. Other popular facelift types not included in this video include those that essentially play around with short incisions and different methods of SMAS plication, such as: - The S-Lift - Circa 1999. A short scar facelift with an S-shaped incision placed in the temporal region. The SMAS is plicated with a two purse-string sutures. (Saylan, Z. The S-lift: Less is more. Aesthetic Surg. J. 19: 406, 1999). - The MACS (Minimal-access Cranial Suspension) Lift - Circa 2001. Essentially an S-lift with a more diagonal (45) vector of lift with slight differences in how the SMAS is plicated. The SMAS is still plicated with purse-string suture and the incision is mostly S-shaped in the temporal region and in front of the ear. (Tonnard P, Verpaele A, Monstrey S, et al. Minimal access cranial suspension lift: a modified S-lift. Plast Reconstr Surg 2002;109 (6) 2074- 2086).
