Bach 1st prelude as a tribute encore to the Edmonton Police Service.

On March 16 2023, I performed the 1st Shostakovich Cello Concerto with my beloved Edmonton Symphony Orchestra where I am Principal Cello. I had the good fortune to be loaned a beautiful Amati cello (Girolamo II) for these performances. (On loan from the University of Saskatchewan). I had actually prepared Rostropovich’s Moderato as a possible encore, but that day two Police Officers in Edmonton (Travis Jordan 35, and Brett Ryan 30) were killed in the line of duty. The story of two young men being senselessly killed on the job while trying to protect the public affected us all very much here in Edmonton. Our management asked me to play some solo Bach instead. I picked the 1st Prelude to play, perhaps slower than I would normally play it, in order to try and give everyone there some peace. I dedicated this encore to the Edmonton Police Service.
