What are the Fey Courts? Basically Feywild, ep.3

Basically Feywild, Episode 3 So you got into Feywild and now you are in front of a Court of Fey, not being able to understand what on the Prime Material is going on? You’re wondering what a Fey Court is, what it represents and why do they threaten to take your eternal shadow if you don’t plan a flower on top of the rival Court’s Sacred Mountain? In this episode I'll talk about the famous Feywild Courts. Usually people talk about the Seelie and Unseelie Fey as if they are representations of Good and Evil. What if we step away from this simple idea, and go deeper? How about a Summer and a Winter Court? Or a Court of Autumn? Did you hear about the Clockwork Court? There’s a lot more to the Fey Courts than meets the eye. In this episode I’m experimenting with new layouts and ideas, so there’s more visual stuff going on, hope you like it. I already see that there's a problem with my cam focus, I'll try to work it out later :) Chapters for this episode are outlined below in the description. What is Basically Feywild? In this series you'll find regular, bite-sized chunks of knowledge about the fey. Where is the Feywild? Or when is it? Are pixies and hags relatives? Is a bargain with the Fey a good decision? How to use your own folklore to create Fey that will be unique to your game? Fair warning: This is fan content. We're not going to be canonical here. This series is meant to inspire you and give you ideas on how you can incorporate this Wonderland into your game. This is not an official rules rehearsal :) Feywild is a plane in the D&D multiverse, but I see it as a universal land of the strange and uncanny, so disregarding if you are a player or a GM, you might find this series interesting. Hi, I am Timor Sol, and I create stuff for TTRPG, especially for D&D 5e. I have a strong passion for both learning and sharing, and since there's a need for Feywild content - here I am. I've read dozens of books on the Fey, from earlier edition books, through monster compendiums and bestiaries, and ending on the unofficial fan-content and 'simple' common literature. And now I want to share. I'm going to start with basics and guide you towards the more interesting, crazy parts of the Feywild. Just don't go crazy ;) You can also find me on twitter:   / timor_sol   Chapters: 00:00 Intro 01:14 The Seelie and the Useelie Fey 02:07 The Courts in 3e D&D 03:10 Scottish Folklore and the source of Un/Seelie 04:05 Goals of Seelie Fey 05:25 Goals of Unseelie Fey 06:14 Examples of Seelie and Unseelie 07:05 Seelie as Summer, Unseelie as Winter? 07:59 The Courts in 4e D&D 12:57 The Courts in 5e D&D 14:00 Eladrin personality traits as a source of 5e lore 17:10 Seasonal Courts instead of Seelie and Unseelie 17:30 The Spring Court 19:38 The Summer Court 22:18 The Spring and Summer difference 22:57 The Autumn Court 26:54 The Winter Court 28:51 The Autumn and Winter difference 29:21 The Courtless or Wyldfey 30:49 Creating unique Fey Courts - examples 34:44 Fey Court composition - an example 41:51 The Clockwork Court idea 43:13 Fey Politics and Conflicts 48:39 Example of Court conflicts 55:31 Outro
