Of these designs, only 1% were made by humans. When the UNESCO team listed Changdeok Palace as a World Heritage Site in 1997, they wrote the comment "an exceptional example for eastern palace architecture and design blending harmoniously with the surrounding landscape"). There are several ponds and halls in the park that reflect Joseon's distinctive architecture that minimizes mock concepts and maximizes natural factors. Although it looks quiet, the park is located not far from downtown Seoul. The main buildings include Yeonghwadang Hall(FlowerReflection Hall), Juhamnu Hall (Heaven Hall),and Yeongyeongdang Hall which completes a square lotus pond. In Joseon's time, people who successfully passed the state civil examination(gwageo)were invited to this park to receive congratulations from the king. Juhamnu is a hall that serves as the library of the royal family. The hall was built by King Jeongjo (1752–1800) who loved to read books and study science. In addition to the hall there is Seohyanggak (Pendopo Kitab Harum)which is designed with special ventilation and light arrangement so that the books stored are not weathered. Yeongyeongdang Hall is a residential complex that looks like a private house.
