At the beginning of 1965, The Rolling Stones were still a young and a very new band following in the footsteps of The Beatles and were really about the only other musical group that could rival them in any way. Like The Beatles they were touring and recording non-stop, releasing three full albums' worth of music by the end of that same year. The Stones were steeped in American Rhythm and Blues, and were drawing large crowds in London, doing covers by Chuck Berry, Howlin' Wolf, Willie Dixon, etc. But now they needed to find their own musical identity for themselves that went beyond merely being an exciting cover band in the UK. They needed to hone their skills as musicians and as songwriters if they were ever going to graduate into the upper echelon of musical superstardom. This album finds them still on a quest for that identity, but maybe not quite there just yet. The potential is buried in there somewhere but how long will it take before they finally turn the page and turn into the band that gave us Satisfaction?   / wolfrivermusic
