His salary increased from 8 Cr to 40 Cr and it is the 5x jump. When you go to HR to negotiate your new salary, they tell you that they cannot increase your salary by more than 30-40% of your base pay. You cannot give the example of CFO Jatin Dalal and ask for a similar hike. Jatin Dalal of Wipro had worked in that company for quite some time and joining Cognizant with a huge hike is possible for him. But there are several ways that an employee like you can also get a high salary in the salary hike discussion. Appraisal discussion between employee and manager does not always go the way you plan. Your undergraduate job will help you get a 4 lakh per year job. An MBA or Master’s will help you get a 20-30 lakh per annum job. But how do you go from 20 lakh to 1 crore or 2 crore in your career? How to increase salary is a common question employees have. If you’re wondering how to get a hike in salary then this video is for you. In this video, I talk about how to get a salary hike with 1 very important thing that you need to understand to improve your salary exponentially. Let’s first talk about how to get high-salary appraisals. Your appraisal interview can improve manifolds if you know how this appraisal rating system works. The first rating is that you did not meet the expectations of the company. The second rating is that you did meet the expectations of the company. And lastly, the third rating is that you exceeded the expectations of the company. What is the difference between these appraisal ratings? The rating that you exceeded the company's expectations means that you are ready for the next role. It means that you are auditioning for the next role. Only when you get these exceeding the expectations consistently you are considered a high performer. This is when your salary can increase by 2x or 3x instead of the common 10-30% as the corporate norm. How can you exceed expectations? Let’s consider the example of a software engineer. Your job as a software engineer is to write good-quality code. If you start writing a good quality code from morning to night, end of the appraisal cycle you will get the rating that you are either meeting the expectations or if you are in the first or second year of your job then you will get the rating that you are exceeding the expectations. But as you grow in your career, nobody cares about your exceptional coding skills. What matters next is this - even if your team is performing well, there will be some processes that are outdated. You need to help the team optimize the process. So, you are going and doing the work that is not assigned to you. The company can grow and its revenues can grow with such a contribution. Moving to a high salary IT job can be tough but by following these tips you can definitely do it. Your salary hike discussion with manager can revolve around these extra contributions you have been making. If you can do this then appraisal interview questions and answers wouldn’t be a tough nut to crack because you already to know what to talk about.
