2021 Canyon Spectral:ON Electric Trail Bike with Mixed Wheels Blasts Descents [eMTB Review]

The latest electric mountain bike from Canyon, the 2021 Canyon Spectral:ON CF features 150mm of suspension travel front and rear, along with a mixed-wheel setup--a 29er in the front and a 27.5-inch wheel in the rear. The Spectral:ON eMTB uses Shimano’s newest e-bike motor, the EP800 and a massive 630Wh battery designed for long or big mountain trail rides. After several months of testing, it's time to share our review. The Spectral:ON CF (carbon-frame) electric bike build features 12-speed SLX shifters connected to an XT derailleur, a RockShox Yari RC fork, RockShox Deluxe Select shock, and Shimano Deore 4-piston brakes with 203mm rotors front and rear. The wheels are an alloy Race Face / Shimano mashup wrapped in Maxxis Minion tires. Then there’s an alloy, Canyon-branded 780mm-wide handlebar, 150mm-travel Iridium dropper post, and a Canyon SD:ON e-specific saddle. The Spectral:ON CF 7 e-bike tested, size extra large and with XTR pedals, weighs 52.1lbs and pricing starts at $6,299. This e-bike really rips downhill. The suspension feels more linear than the non-electric Spectral likely to add more support for the added weight of the motor and battery. Rides feel well supported when pedaling with plenty of suspension for riding fast, big hits, nearly anything you’ll encounter on a trail ride. Descending, this Spectral:ON is more stable than playful, though that’s not to say the bike doesn’t like to play. It just takes a bit more effort and creativity. On particularly technical trails, and especially switchback climbs, the limited turning radius of the Spectral:ON is noticeable. Overall Canyon has created a really solid electric mountain bike for trail riding in the Spectral:ON. It feels incredibly composed down fast, rough descents and gets riders back up to the top for another round with minimal hassle. It’s comfortable enough for all-day rides, and fortunately the battery should last almost that long too. Pros - Dialed suspension platform for descending - Long-lasting and efficient battery / motor combo - Reliable performance, and durable frame build Cons - Heavy, even for an e-bike - Stock tires are flimsy - XL build needs a longer-travel dropper For more info and to read the full ebike review, visit: https://www.singletracks.com/mtb-gear... #EMTB #MountainBiking #MTB #Ebike #MyCanyon -- Follow Singletracks: On the Web: https://www.singletracks.com/ Facebook:   / singletracksmtb   Instagram:   / singletracks   Twitter:   / singletrackscom   Get Merch: https://shop.singletracks.com/
