A refreshing and lightly sweet cocktail, Liquid Charms was one of our very first cocktails showcasing our Minuteman Vodka. It was created before seltzers were “a thing” but this original definitely falls into that category, with a little more elbow grease for the bartender. You don’t need to destroy the mint and citrus when you muddle. Just a few presses will get the mint oils out and the juices flowing. The simple syrup helps to capture all the flavors. What do you mean by “purists”. The man with the fancy mustache may say that the vodka should join the muddled mint, syrup, lemon and lime juices and be stirred all together before the ice. This is so the alcohol is not diluted in the process. We choose to stir in the glass to allow a little dilution. It is totally up to you. Either way, once you put the ice and soda water in, you will want to stir it all together again. Why call it “Liquid Charms”? Our veteran claims the flavor of this cocktail reminds him of the MRE candies called charms during his service. Fun Fact: Charms candies would continue to be included in MREs until 2007. Over the intervening years, the candies came to be associated with bad luck; in 2007, the U.S. Department of Defense removed them from all MREs due to the negative associations many service members had with the candies.
