We stayed at Isla del Sol, the small island on Lake Titicaca, the largest lake in South America and the highest navigable lake (3800 m | 12000 ft) in the world. Not just the geographical importance, Isla del Sol is also known for the Incan ruins spread across the island. It has an interesting legend, that the first 2 Incans, a male and a female were born on this island. It is said that the God Viracocha emerged from Lake Titicaca and created the first 2 Incans - Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, on Isla del Sol. Isla del Sol can be visited on a day trip from La Paz. However, we spent 2 days on the island to enjoy the amazing views of Lake Titicaca, the snow-peaked mountains of the Cordillera Real of the Andes mountain range, and the Incan ruins. We took an early morning bus from La Paz to Copacabana. After lunch, we boarded the ferry to Isla del Sol from the port of Copacabana. We stayed at a charming family-run eco-lodge in the southern part of the island and walked to Yumani, which has the highest human settlement on the island. The views, the ruins, and the warmth of the people made it an overall beautiful experience and we wish to come back in the future. Stay tuned for more travel videos from our Bolivia series.
