In his interpretation of "Prelude, Tristan und Isolde", "Pelléas et Mélisande" and Alban Berg's Violin Concerto he follows the revolutionary harmonic development of musical modernism. Pierre Boulez - undoubtedly one of the most important figures in the music of our time - conducts the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. The ensemble was founded in 1986 by the initiative of Maestro Abbado and consists of musicians under the age of 26 from all countries of Europe. Soloist Akiko Suwanai is the youngest first-prize recipient (1990) in the history of the International Tchaikovsky Competition.
