Modernity Has Expired—But What Comes Next? Bayo Akomolafe and Jeremy Lent in conversation

More info: Bayo Akomolafe: https://www.bayoakomolafe.net/ Deep Transformation Network: https://deeptransformation.network/feed As our civilization careens toward a precipice of climate breakdown, ecological destruction, and gaping inequality, people are losing their existential moorings. The worldview of modernity is one of disconnection. It tells us we are split between mind and body, separate from each other, and at odds with the natural world—and it’s driving us toward catastrophe. This worldview has passed its expiration date—but what comes next? In this Deep Transformation Network interactive conversation, Jeremy Lent discusses with poet, philosopher, and activist Bayo Akomolafe how we can inhabit the troubling yet potentially liberating space between worlds. “What if the way we act,” Bayo asks, “actually serves to reproduce the same conditions we are striving to escape?” As we feel the compelling urge to rectify injustice and visualize a life-affirming future for humanity on a regenerated Earth, Bayo asks us to ponder questions that are both unnerving and potentially liberating: “What could it mean to slow down in times of urgency?” “What if the ways we respond to the crisis are part of the crisis?” “What does activism look like at the end of hope?” In this session, we explore these questions among others, as we inquire into the possibilities that might just arise from letting go of our convictions and surrendering to the disarray of the interstitial.
