Carrying on with another explanation of revolver mechanics this video briefly explains the function of a forcing cone in a revolver before venturing into changes Smith & Wesson has made to the forcing cone of their revolvers over the years as a way to achieve a more compact cylinder in the Model 10, how that created some issues particularly in certain production years of the Model 19 and Model 66, and how revolvers with a larger cylinder like the 2020 Colt Python and the S&W 686 (L-frame) offer greater robustness at the expense of slightly larger size and weight. Importantly, some guidance is offered on which varieties of .357 Magnum ammunition are more likely to cause a crack of the forcing cone, and which particular revolvers you might want to avoid Magnums in and stick to .38 Special or .38 Special +p.
