HipHop Heads Reacting to 'Rosanna' by TOTO | Our Parents Suddenly Seemed Cooler

"Rosanna" by the American rock band Toto was the opening track and first single from their 1982 album Toto IV, which received critical acclaim and commercial success. The song was such a hit that we couldn't resist dancing along to the infectious beat. They were enamored with the half-time shuffle that drummer Jeff Porcaro developed, which has since become an important staple of drum repertoire and is commonly known as the "Rosanna shuffle". The West Side Story-inspired video was directed by Steve Barron and featured Cynthia Rhodes as the lead dancer Rosanna, whose bright red dress contrasted beautifully with the gray urban streetscape. Little did they know that Patrick Swayze was also uncredited as a dancer in the music video, which led to both him and Rhodes being cast in the movie Dirty Dancing the following year. In 1983, "Rosanna" won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and was also nominated for Song of the Year, solidifying its place in music history.
