Village Life in the Indian Himalayas: Rasol Trek 🇮🇳

In this episode of Onwards & Upwards, my friends and I hike up to the surreal and serene mountain village of Rasol. We start our hike in Kasol (near Manali in the state of Himachel Pradesh), and our destination is Rasol. We pass by the Parvati River along the way (we are in the Parbati valley after all), as well as the town of Chalal. In the Indian Himalayas (well, the Indian lesser Himalayas), there are some truly magical spots one can explore. This was some majestic hiking or trekking. The trail was clearly visible all the time. We pass a porter and shopkeeper who was carrying up either Rhododendron juice or wine! His hands were stained with the red dye of the petals. The buildings in the town square are hundreds of years old, and contain a Renuka mother goddess shrine that prohibits foreigners and non-locals from entering. It surprised me that this Hindu culture made its way a Diego, Milo, Zak and I thoroughly enjoyed this day and it stands out among a handful of glorious mountain hikes around Himachel Pradesh. Or, as Indians say, one of the greatest treks. The area of Kasol has many tourist attractions, and it attracts tourists from other countries who wish to stay long term and soak in the culture. Lots of people from Israel, historically. In recent decades Indians from the southern states treat the village of Kasol as a weekend getaway. However, Rasol is a big enough hike away from Kasol -- with no roads in our out --that the people you see up there are either locals or hikers. 0:00 Intro 1:35 From Kasol 2:59 Arriving in Chalal 3:27 Hiking by the river 4:55 Starting the hike up 6:35 Talking to flower man 8:56 The final push 9:56 Stop for tea 10:55 To Rasol Square 12:35 Meeting a friend 15:00 Starting the descent 16:41 Chow mein for dinner Music credits: Raining handpan song titled "Cinematic Handpan 100bpm", credit to "Johnnie_Holiday", link here: https://freesound.org/people/Johnnie_...
