WTOL 11 Vault: April 1, 1986 | Toledo 11 News at 6 p.m. (Headlines, sports, weather and commercials)

Please join us now for a historic look at a typical day in Toledo from back in 1986! Jeff Heitz and Jill Olmsted anchor this Toledo 11 News six o’clock show from April 1, 1986. They're joined by meteorologist Charlie Umpenhour and sports director Orris Tabner for the latest headlines, weather and sports from Toledo and beyond.  Highlights include... Toledo firefighters extinguish a grass fire at Swan Creek Metropark. Reporter Stuart Watson talks to Communications Workers of America organizers and University of Toledo personnel as UT classified staff consider unionizing. Reporter Elizabeth McGuire talks to local dairy farmers about the national milk surplus. Reporter Faith Murphy shows us a neat way area Girl Scouts are preparing to become the best babysitters on their block. And of course, WTOL 11 legend Dick Berry put on his shades to tell us about a unique way some choose to make a living.  Then, in weather, Charlie records a new record-high temperature in Toledo and Orris follows up with the results of the 1986 NCAA Basketball Championship game between the University of Louisville Cardinals and the Duke University Blue Devils! There’s a big appliance sale at Highland Superstores and to close out the day, Jeff has exciting news for travelers flying Air Wisconsin from the Toledo Express Airport.
