Awakening of Flora Performance at Bayer Ballet Outdoor Studios

This presentation of Awakening of Flora, filmed in Bayer Ballet’s Outdoor Studios, features dancers from Bayer Ballet Academy divisions: Juniors 1 through Juniors 6, Apprentice, and Pre-Professional, ranging  in age 8-18 years. The choreography was taught through a combination of hybrid classes, as we adjusted based on COVID regulations.  Faculty and students worked diligently this year, overcoming many different obstacles, working outside or virtually, in masks, and limited numbers. They persevered and brought hope and light during this time. **Music by Riccardo Drigo **Libretto by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov **Choreography by Marius Petipa ________ History of Awakening of Flora Awakening of Flora is a one-act ballet anacréontique based on the Ancient Greco-Roman myth of Flora, the Goddess of the Flowers.   In 1894, The Awakening of Flora premiered at the Peterhof Palace, Saint Petersburg and in 1895 at the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre.  In 1914,  Anna Pavlova staged a 30-minute abridged version, which premiered in London. After 88 years, Sergei Vikharev reconstructed the ballet for the Mariinsky Ballet in 2007. In 2004, Yuri Burlaka created an abstract, Rose Pas de quatre, which was created for a workshop held at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy and then later transferred to the Bolshoi Ballet. The Vaganova Academy has incorporated this piece into their annual graduation performances.
