Building simple aquarium stand 40 gallon breeder tank

I bought a 40 gallon aquarium but I didn't have a stand for it, so I had to either buy one or build one. I chose to build it, although, this is the smallest stand I have built. It was much easier to manage, though! Supplies used: I started with (7) 2x4's I purchased at Lowes. I want to point out that these same 2x4x8's were about $3.95 last year. Today, they are nearly $7 each. Also, I typically buy a piece of OSB sheathing and cut it down to use as the top of the stand, as well as, the bottom shelf of the stand. Last year a sheet of OSB was around $13... today, its over $30. So, in this build I did use some spare materials I had laying around the garage. But, start with the (7) 2x4x8's and cut them into these pieces and quantities. (4) 37 inch boards (4) 30 inch boards (6) 16 inch boards (8) 23 inch boards Then assemble as shown. Use whatever wood you have and cut out a top for the stand and the bottom shelve (floor of the inside cabinet). I prefer the cheaper OSB because I paint it any way. Note: You will see me using a pneumatic nail gun. What you may not see is that I went back and used 2.5 inch deck screws to firm up all the boards that will carry a load or make up the framework of the stand. Disclaimer: Build this stand at your own risk. Use safety glasses, dusk mask, and common sense. Just because you see Gebo's Garage building things a certain way, doesn't mean that you should too. Always use your own best judgement. This tank stand made its way downstairs and is ready for the aquarium. The final project turned out nice. I am pretty happy with it so far. I may or may not add cabinet doors to it, as I think the canister filter I am going to use will look nice underneath the stand. If you do build this - have some fun with it.
