Especially in context as an arcade game in 1987, this game has incredibly aggressive and striking sound with both the music and sound effects. Barbarian games are an important part of gaming history and this game definitely had a huge influence on those games following it, as well as many ports and direct sequels. The game is difficult but also fair and learnable (outside of bats that attack you if you stand still too long...so the game is all about pressing forward without hesitation). Some of my favorite streamers on Twitch are specialists in barbarian games (macaw45, Duke Donuts, Bardic Broadcasts, etc) and very fun to explore how many are actually out there! Also seeing these powerful arcade versions makes you appreciate the home versions for their differences and unique aspects. Japanese blog lists Masahiko Takaki as the composer of all of the songs and Naoto as sound effects but given the credits I have to guess they were probably working together to some degree.
