Who knew felting was so easy? I'm tickled pink with my new hat, and I'm making more. Give it a try! Here's the brief instructions: Use chunky 100% wool that will felt. I USED A DOUBLE STRAND OF PATONS CLASSIC WOOL YARN, which is a normal worsted weight. So I doubled it to make it chunky/bulky weight. This is knitted entirely in stockinette stitch. If you knit in the round, you'll only have to knit, no purling! Knit on circular needles, but will have to switch to a shorter cable or double-pointed needles at the end. Use 12 mm (size #17) needles and cast on 70 stitches. Knit until the work is 14.5 cm (5.7”) tall, then * knit one, knit 2 together * for one row, to reduce after the brim. Then knit till it is 35 cm (13.8”) tall. Then knit 2 together on every row, to reduce crown of hat. Kept doing this until reduced to 6 stitches on the needle.
