MyWhoosh Update Review: Enough to drop Zwift? 🌟🚴‍♂️

🤩 Instagram: https://instagram.com/breakawayb?igsh... 📍 Strava:   / strava   ⚡ Daily cycling content: YouTube.com/@BreakawayB?sub_confirmat... 🎬 CHAPTERS: 0:00 - Intro 0:36 - Loading AlUla 1:44 - Update 3.5.0. recap 2:45 - My setp-up 3:49 - AlUla, according to ChatGPT 5:42 - The part that'll get me in trouble 6:16 - Version 3.5.0. bug fixes 7:53 - Summary ✍️ This week MyWhoosh released update version 3.5.0. There is an apply named “Culture Ride,” and as a very uncultured individual: I view this as an opportunity to become a scholar and well-learned man. The platform is still free-to-play, which is pretty awesome, but MyWhoosh is still not available for MacOS. The person running MyWhoosh’s social media accounts is spam-pasting this statement to the endless feed of comments requesting MAC-support: “We're actively working on the Mac build, and we're aiming to release it by the first quarter of 2024. Thank you for your understanding.” This mid-20 frames-per-second recording was done on an iPhone 12 running at approximately half the heat of the sun. Back in September I had the game crash on me from my phone getting too hot while running the app, so this time I learned my lesson and set my case-less phone on an igloo freezer pack. Either that’s the most absurd thing anybody has ever done to record a video about a cycling video game, or we can pretend that virtual reality has come so far that the actual desert heat of the city of Al Ula is radiating through my phone. I choose to believe the latter scenario. But, this poses a new problem: How am I to trick my brain into believing the desert heat of Al Ula is being passed via the magic of electricity from the some city beyond the horizon onto my easy-to-assemble Ikea workstand if I don’t even know where Al Ula is? Like any good YouTuber, I asked ChatGPT. Here is how our future A.I. overlord responded: “Al Ula, located in the northwestern part of Saudi Arabia, is a city that effortlessly blends the ancient with the contemporary. Its historical significance is underscored by the UNESCO World Heritage Site status granted to Madain Saleh, a remarkable archaeological complex that once thrived as the southern capital of the Nabataean Kingdom. The city's skyline is dominated by sandstone cliffs adorned with intricately carved rock-cut tombs, providing a captivating glimpse into the architectural prowess of the Nabataeans. Al Ula's landscape, characterized by the stark beauty of the Arabian Desert, is softened by the presence of the Al Ula oasis, where lush date palm groves flourish, creating a striking contrast against the desert backdrop. In recent years, Al Ula has become a rising star in the realm of tourism, drawing visitors with its unique historical treasures and stunning natural landscapes. Al Ula's commitment to sustainable tourism is evident in its efforts to strike a balance between development and preservation, ensuring that the city's timeless allure remains intact for future generations. With its rich historical tapestry and a forward-looking approach to tourism, Al Ula stands as a city that invites exploration, promising a journey through the ages amid the splendor of the Arabian Peninsula.” Keep in mind that less than a minute ago I used artificial intelligence to tell me where this city was located. Now that Update Version 3.5.0 is released, it actually did feel a bit more stable. Also, when I last played the game in September there were two quirks while riding a workout, and both appear to have been fixed. The first interval of any workout was always marked incomplete, which in-turn resulted in every workout I did being marked just shy of 100% completion. Granted, the point of a workout is to get a workout, and I certainly achieved that goal, but it was slightly annoying to not get the virtual pat-on-the-back gold star for completing the workout. So, my ego is happy that got fixed. Previously, when a workout’s time duration ended your ride was automatically saved and uploaded. If you wanted to keep riding after the workout was done: too bad. You’re done when MyWhoosh says you’re done, soldier. Or…at least that’s how it used to be, but that’s fixed now, too, and similarly to Zwift it will pull up a workout completion screen at the end of your workout’s duration, but allow you to minimize the screen and continue riding in free-roam afterwards if you’d like. Once you end the ride it will upload the complete ride as one file, the way it should be. And those examples kinda sum up the whole MyWhoosh experience: it truly does appear to be trending in the right direction. There’s still the glaring issue of no MacOS support, and for that reason I’ll likely limit my interaction with MyWhoosh to short-duration recovery rides here-and-there. --------- #bike #cycling #indoorcycling #mywhoosh #zwift #fitness #bicycle #bikes
